The history of...

So, you ask, how did a thirty-something couple and their dog come to undertake an epic restoration? Where did this dream of cruising begin?

Let me take you back... the year was 2000.

The boy and girl met when they became bench mates in the
Marine System program at the Landing School of Boatbuilding and Design in Kennebunkport, Maine.

They build boats like this...

.....in the boat building programs. However we had each signed up for the marine systems program. Which means.. engines.. electrical systems.. air conditioning... refrigeration.. dirty skills.

Why?

I had just left a position as chief mate on a tall ship...

Thinking that my "captain" skills would be improved if I increased my "engineer" skills I decided to take a year and delve deep into all that is mechanical. I'm just that kind of girl.

The boy had just left the Coast Guard...

.... and wanted to continue working on boats, preferably sailboats.

And so the rest is history...

Well not really... but it is a story for another day.

Launch!

3 years and 3 months after beginning the epic restoration
Kairos was launched on Tuesday, June 22, 2010.

Journey's End boat transport picked her up and transported her to Thomaston....

Out of the shelter Justin build for the restoration.

Up the hill.

Over the St. George river.

And into the water!

On Friday June 25, 2010 the masts were stepped...

And we bent on the sails... marconi mizzen and gaff main.

Up next... 4th of July shake down cruise!
